VIRTUS Hayes Facility to use Excool Technology
VIRTUS, provider of flexible and efficient data centre solutions is well underway with the construction of their flagship data centre in Hayes. Designed to BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard and consisting of six data halls, the site will deliver 11.4MW of IT power and 65,000 sq ft of customer data centre space.
Data centre cooling will be achieved using indirect air cooling technology from Excool. It will be one of the first in London to deploy this technology and will dramatically decrease energy consumption bringing power usage effectiveness (PUE) to below 1.2 and deliver substantial TCO reductions to VIRTUS’ clients.
Excool was chosen as it is based on well proven technology, it is very cost effective and simple to deploy, operate and maintain. Excool’s highly advanced design uses typically only 5-10% of the energy of a conventional cooling system.
Its greatest innovations are the heat transfer medium, adiabatic method and the arrangement of both, which together form the essence of the system efficiency. In most cases this allows it to be used without mechanical cooling being needed and can dramatically reduce infrastructure, operating and maintenance costs.
Mark Collins, Director Excool commented –
“It is exciting for us to be working with VIRTUS who share our drive for innovation and reductions in carbon footprint in datacentre cooling. The team at VIRTUS are firm believers in the relevance of the Excool technology in meeting the demands to drive total cost of ownership ever lower”.
