Excool 100% free cooling system in Digital Realty\\\'s Profile Park

Digital Realty's Profile Park 10 acre site will support the development of up to eight data centre suites across four separate buildings on a dedicated campus, totalling approx. 193,000 sq ft of space that will support up to 16MW of IT load.

A first in Ireland, cooling will be achieved using indirect air cooling technology from Excool that works through a combination of mechanical ventilation and adiabatic cooling to deliver the cooling to the data hall.   Because the heat transfer system is so efficient and outdoor air is kept outdoors, compressor based cooling is never required and has therefore been eliminated completely.

Air to air heat exchanger technology has been used in heat recovery devices for many years.   Excool have optimised this technology specifically for the application of adiabatic and evaporative cooling in data centres.  The heat exchanger is manufactured from a composite material which unlike the more commonly used aluminium, makes it resistant to corrosion, more robust and leak tight.

Gary Keogh, Sales Director Digital Realty Ireland said "Dublin has an ideal climate for deploying this indirect air optimisation design which significantly improves our clients' data centre's energy efficiency by lowering PUE (power usage effictiveness) and therefore their total cost of occupancy".

The data centre campus is also on target to achieve BREEAM 'Excellent'.

Mark Collins, Director Excool commented - "Although Excool can achieve significant financial and energy saving globally, climates such as those in Ireland are ideal for maximising the benefits the product can deliver.  Digital Realty are as enthusiastic as ourselves and after several months of evaluation in our environmental test, we are delighted to be working with them on the first application of its kind in Ireland".
